Do you notice how your brain is going in loops trying to understand this sentence: ”Joy creates?”
Growing up in a world where most people are taught to be motivated by lack and unhappiness, “joy creates” just does not make sense.
As a psychologist, I ask people to consider the possibility of joy being a powerful force to create your life. When people start to acknowledge and enjoy what they have, rather than fixate on what they don’t, joyful living grows.
Here are my top 5 insights on how “joy creates,” and how you can choose it and use it in your life!
Insight #1: Go from lack to possibilities!
Are you using feelings of lack to try and motivate yourself to create more?
Is it only when the numbers in the bank account approach the minus mark, that you feel enough pressure to find a way to make more money? Do you wait until a job or a relationship is really unbearable before you are willing to change it or leave it? Do you think if you criticize yourself more, you will do better?
This strategy is what we have all learned as the way to go, but what if you could change this and do something different – like inspire yourself with possibilities?
Look at your relationships, friends, jobs you’ve had in your life so far and ask yourself: What contribution are they or were they that I have not acknowledged yet? What have I learned and gained from my creations and past experiences that I can now use?
For example, if you have been fired from a job, have you considered that experience now gives you an expertise that you can use to inspire others with? What do you know about dealing with that situation that you could use to assist or coach people, or blog about it, and what else could be possible?
Insight #2: Survive or thrive?
Waiting for bills to come, taking care of the bills and then starting all over next month is the way to survive. Is that truly enough for you? Would you rather thrive than survive? How do you do that?
Thriving is where you are willing to go beyond needs and choose things in your life that inspire you to a more joyful lifestyle.
What gives you the feeling of thriving?
Start with looking at your living space. Which pieces are you enjoying and which do you just have to fulfill a utilitarian purpose?
What if you got rid of the things you do not truly enjoy in your life, like furniture and clothes that no longer add to the pleasure of your life? What if you would get rid of the people who judge you constantly?
What have you decided is more than you can have or deserve? Start wondering what it would be like to have it and invite it into your life!
When you stop surviving and look at what would be joyful to have in your life, you begin to attract the things and people that would contribute to the lifestyle and the thriving you would like to get accustomed to!
Insight #3: Do not wait! Create!
What are you waiting for? The right amount of money, the perfect partner or the insight that makes you know what you want? How long have you been waiting? Are you bored yet?
What if you create rather than wait? Every time you create your life, it becomes the forward movement to greater possibilities. Start that momentum – choose something different, anything! There are no right or wrong choices in life. When you make a choice, you will get more information on whether that choice leads to what you desire. If it does, keep on moving in that direction. If it doesn’t, change direction. It really is as simple as choosing again, and then again and then again. Time to allow your life to be that easy?
